DOS recorder
« on: May 17, 2006, 03:50:00 am »

"DOS recorder is a cross-platform application which records "text
videos" - the text output of console (text-only) applications (Windows,
MS-DOS or Linux) into specially designed, platform-independent
compressed "text demo" files.

The demo format preserves timing, color and cursor information, making
it perfect for text-based 80x25 roguelikes, such as ADOM, Crawl,
DoomRL, etc.

Other features include support for annotations, and a Java applet for
playing demo files from a web browser.

They don't actually spec the format anywhere it seems, otherwise looks somewhat interesting. Getting the tick rate right from an external process sounds a bit of an ask too. And... ew, it's pascal...

\They don't actually spec the format anywhere it seems\

AFAIR, it uses internal format, so you have to play it with the same Doa Recorder... but moviefiles shouldn't be too large.

\Getting the tick rate right\

For "Dward Fortress" we have internal movie recorder so we won't need that. LCS is turn-based so there's no tick rate.

\ew, it's pascal...\

GearHead is Pascal. DoomRL is Pascal. FreePascal is good.
