Unexplainable game/system slowdown

I've had this problem for almost 2 weeks now. It's not only this game, but any game that was programmed in C++. When I first starts the game, it will run smooth as giant cave spider silk, but after a few minutes, it will begin to chug. BIG TIME. What's normally at an optimum whatever the max FPS on this game is, the game will dissolve down to 1/8 of a frame per second. It will take up to 8 seconds to refresh one frame. I have been scouring the internet for any kind of response as to what this problem may be, and I've not received any conclusive answer from anyone. I'm using the most recent version of Dwarf Fortress, and yes, this computer can more than handle it.

It's not only this game, but any game that was programmed in C++.

In that case, you might want to consider moving this to General Discussion (thread controls in the lower left), cause this doesn't sound like a DF problem and you're more likely to get useful advice there.
