"Community" Fortress - Shimmerrims
« on: October 06, 2008, 06:16:32 pm »

This is a fort that I maintain sole control of.

How is that a community fortress, you ask?

It's simple, really.  I play out this fortress, and your names are substituted for those of all the legendaries in the fort.
I will write a basic mockup of what's happening every year, with reports of the goings-on of the legends I notice.

Current dwarves:
Me, Woodcrafting, Stonecrafting, Bone carving
Wolf (not a forum member, but part of this nonetheless), Metalcrafter
____, Armorsmith/Weaponsmith/Blacksmithing
____, Miner/Gem Setter/Gem Cutter
____, Miner
____, Miner

Those multi-role dwarves (except for me) are subject to being split.  I'll post any interesting 3Dwarf shots I come across in my semi-regular appearance checks

The Report of Vucar Aknunsizar, Fortress Leader
Shimmerrims, 16th Granite, 292
That massive tower I mandated, sprouting from a hole we dug sixteen stories down is coming along very nicely.  The basement doors have been set up, allowing me to lock them up nice and tight and drop unwanted beasts to a gory death.  Our entrance is still not as built-up as I'd like, however it and the four recruits wielding our highest quality equipment should fend off any unwanted guests for as long as need be.  Not so long ago, Jay, that bastard, locked himself inside the craftsdwarf shop and demanded cut gems, plant fiber cloth, and a turtle shell.  We were completely unprepared for that request, as busy with the two aforementioned masonry projects as we were, but we managed to scrounge the materials up just in time, and he created, of all things, an EARRING.  Out of turtle shell.  Remind me to flog him some time.  Oh, but he tells excellent jokes too..  Perhaps he'll avoid a flogging..  For now.  I appointed a broker to tend to trading rather then myself, as I'm far too busy writing up records of all the materials we have to worry about those blasted traders coming to our door every year.  Argh!  All night and day, these damn cats come barging into my quarters or my office and start meowing in a very mad tone about something.  If they weren't the pets of many of my subjects, I'd have half a mind to throw them all down the tower hole.  Our jeweler has been getting very skillful very fast.  I've thrown every gemstone we have in the place at him, and he's completely unfazed.  Shouldn't we give him a nickname?  We've got a lot of other highly skilled workers to give proper nicknames to as well before I can write a proper report up about them.

Whew!  I called that basic?

I will be Shoruke the (hopefully male) swordsdwarf, an aspiring young dwarf who hopes to someday become a general and lead the defense of a great fortress... unless he dies in a very showy way first.

The Unforgotten Beast, Shoruke, has come! A pale-skinned human. It has heterochromatic eyes and moves in an unpredictable manner. Beware its rapier wit!

Agh.  It goes against my normal routine to even look to see if there are any new posts in the community game/story forum at all.
I guess I'll have to break my habits...
Anyway, we stand at:

Me, Woodcrafting, Stonecrafting, Bone carving
Wolf, Metalcrafter/Broker
Aardvark, Armorsmith/Weaponsmith/Blacksmithing
Echo, Miner/Gem Setter/Gem Cutter
Dolbit. Miner
Stonehand, Miner

FUTURE DWARFS
Shoruke
Goldsie
Glacies

You will get first pick of new legendaries, as this is not "Pick a name and a profession and you'll be a legendary in that profession" No, this is "Pick a name and a pre-existing legendary and that's who you'll be"
Sorry Glacies, Aardvark got the smith first.

I haven't had a chance to actually play for a little while..  So no new log entry yet.

EDIT2: Personalities here.
I'm using a heavily modified game, so don't be surprised to see nonstandard stuff in there.

The Report of Vucar Aknunsizar, Fortress Leader
Shimmerrims, 17th Granite, 292
We have given a name to the hunter who died long ago to a cougar.  His name is now Gaur.
For some reason, I was asked to transcribe the personalities of the highly skilled workers and Gaur, so of course, I complied.
Here is what I have recorded.

I laughed at this one.  "He doesn't really care about anything anymore."  And he's dead.  Of course he doesn't.

Such blasphemy!  I had no idea so many of them were married to each other!

Wow, Stonehand and I have something in common: we both like gasoline soaked swords (actually, for me it's gasoline soaked anything ;D ).  Nice mod, by the way.  Nice FPS, too.

The Report of Vucar Aknunsizar, Fortress Leader
Shimmerrims, 10th Felsite, 292
Some more migrants have arrived.  This report would otherwise not be sent, but for a few pieces of news: The tower's stairs have been built up to its 20th story, which is currently being set up as the pit level, where we drop vile fiends into the basement.  There will be no survival.  I was also elected mayor.
Thus, the title is not entirely accurate.

The Report of Vucar Aknunsizar, Mayor
Shimmerrims, 11th Felsite 292
We have voted, and unanimously agreed upon a larger meeting hall.  It will be built later this year.
