Anyone know how to gen a world with actual cliff faces? Even with

I'm still getting smooth-sided mountains.

Try setting the elevation X/Y variables to the maximum values.  Or just one dimension, if you want everything screwed up in only one direction.

The elevation change should be so huge that it won't be able to smooth it out.  However, you will end up with a rather inhospitable landscape...

Or, try and figure out how to use the map editor.  Place some exceptionally high elevation tiles right next to some exceptionally low elevation tiles.

Welp, looks like you need some _serious_ elevation changes to get this to work. I just started a map with a 24 z layer drop from mountain top to valley floor, and while there were cliffs, they were very small (2-3 z layers, for about 10 tiles before going back to ramps in either direction) and most of the mountain was just very steep slope (a single z level will often only be 2 tiles wide, one for the up ramp and one for the down ramp).

Needless to say, my wagon exploded and dropped my gear all over the face of the mountain :)
