Community mod, anyone interrested?
« on: September 23, 2008, 03:29:06 am »

Now I don't know much at all about how to mod this great game but I was wondering what others think about the idea of a community mod. A mod in which everyone can add stuff to expand upon this already awesome game.

Although like I said I don't know much about the modding part of df and would probably not be of much help. I'd still love to help out as much as I can.

So, what do people think about this kind of mod thingie?
Do you think it could work out?
Or is it destined to crash and burn (like all things dwarven)?  ;D

I would like to contribute. But is DF source code available?
I wish this game was open source...

As far as I know the source is not avaible, but there seems to be quite plenty of stuff in the raws that one can expand upon or make changes to.  ;D
And if I recall correct a goal is to move a lot of the currently hardcoded stuff over to the raws in the future.

Yep, that's right. The game is closed source, but the raws can be edited for many things. As for a community mod, it might be a good idea to get an idea of what you want to work on first, e.g. new race, different type of world, more powerful enemies etc.
