I had a glassmaker go into a fey mood.
Instead of heading toward the magma glass furnace that he had been using for the past 2 years, he went to the dining hall and stood there watching the grass grow. Which, of course did not grow, for the meeting hall was quite dark, damp, and underground.

I then built him a normal, non-magma glass furnace, and, oh yeah... He claimed it and I now have a legendary glassmaker. Hurray.

I guess it's a bug that he did not recognize the magma glass furnace.

Anyway... I believe that's a known bug.

dwarves very specifically choose magma or non magma furnaces

indeed. it's intended behavior. dwarves can pick from either magma buildings or their non-magma equivalents when magma has been discovered.
