 Actually, with Toady working on military positions now this could be implemented within the next release or two.

This would be great. I want my champion hammerdwarf squad training in a different room than my new recruits wearing leather. As it is I have to alternate activating and deactivating squads, which cuts down on my training time quite a bit.
