Human refugees?
« on: September 19, 2008, 07:41:55 pm »

Has this happened before?  I started a fortress in a human town within their weapon store because I thought I would get free weapons and it made me feel like those people in documentaries living among prairie dogs or something ;D, either way eventually with the arrival of 12 dwarves consisting of peasants and soap makers and the path finding of  50 humans my fps was eaten by a grue.
After getting tired of trudging through at 25-28 fps I had enough and abandoned my fort.  I thought this was a pretty good fort so I built an adventurer  and explored it.  I learned 2 things... 1.When you abandon a fort near a town the humans abandon too, and 2.Every single human moves to your statue gardens and your meeting halls.  Some how the humans got tired of living in nice houses but instead huddle in dark cave full of the corpses of sapient dogs((?)I made talking and learning dogs).  The really weird thing is they seemed to grow in numbers.  Also... how come humans don't eat in fortress mode, cause I know they eat in adventure  mode.

P.S.These are great forums!!
P.S.S.Woot! This is my first post!!
P.S.S.S.Is this the right forum?

Yep. It'll happen if you abandon your fortress with traders at your depot too.

I abandoned once, and revisted an old fort and had all the Human merchants and guards chilling out in my tavern/meeting hall.

I recruited a handful of them when I asked them to.

There weren't any traders though.  It was the guards and kids and even the local leader of the human village.  Some actually seemed to leave to hunt the local gophers that strayed close.(evident because the trail of dead gophers from the entrance)
Also this village had like 8 hammerers and 20 kids.  Are all towns like this?

Not any more. All animalmen lost their [NATURAL] tags, so they're some of the feww things normally hostile to elves now. If you modded [NATURAL] back into them you could recruit them.

So are animal men hostile to everyone or just the elves and dwarves?  Is there a way to make an animal non hostile to everyone so when I'm in a dwarf fort I don't get spammed by "Urist Mcdwarfy has been killed by batman"?

Sure. Just add [NATURAL] to the animalmen (in the creature files), and [AT_PEACE_WITH_WILDLIFE] to the dwarves (in the entity files).
