Adventure Mode - Memory/Legends
« on: September 10, 2008, 05:12:48 pm »

Not sure how big or how hard this suggestion is. Hell, it might even already be there and I haven't found it. Ive been playing Fortress mode for a while and I just started Adventure, which is, imo, the area needing the most improvement. All in all, fortress could be a complete game. Adventure mode? Not really, unfortunately.

Anyways, my suggestion would be a modified legends menu that can be reached in adventure mode. This legends menu would only show the events/civs/towns/etc that this specific character has revealed. This would, in a way, be your character's "memory". While playing adventure mode, ive always wanted to skip over to Legends and see things that I know ive heard about. This would allow that.

Feedback always welcome.

I think the #1 option (suggestion) that's out there now is storing the legends in an XML file outside of DF and letting third party tools parse it.

As far as 'memory' goes.  There are a few 'hide all the legends again' suggestions floating around.

I suspect that there's a reason why Legends mode is not accessible whilst playing, and I suspect that it's to do with how the unit data is offloaded at the end of a session.

That said, I hope that something similar to what the OP suggests is implemented soon.

Clumsy work-around:
Copy your active world-region and rename it LegendsQuery or some such.  Then retire your character in that copied world.  You'll then be able to save your active game and go in to look things up in the query world Legends mode, before reloading your active game exactly where you left off.
This, obviously, works better when playing in a world with everything revealed... otherwise you'd have to repeat the process regularly to get new information included.
