Undead in Fortress mode
« on: September 05, 2008, 04:43:23 pm »

It seems dwarves are trying to strangle undead foxes to death. And since they don't breathe, it does nothing and they stand there doing nothing and not responding to commands, presumably until they die of thirst. Can't confirm the last bit though, mine just got thirsty before I got around to sending backup

Yeah I've had this happen too.  On the plus side, they can train up from Dabbling to Expert in a matter of minutes this way.

Sounds like the same bug as the hunter beating an unconscious elephant until he died of thirst.

I once (in 38c) had a caravan guard -- an axedwarf -- spend the better part of a year chasing after a zombie camel, trying to kill it. Only problem was that two rounds into the fighting, his axe had gotten stuck in the camel's body. I eventually took pity on him and sent my hammerdwarves out to help him.

This isnt a bug.

How is it not a bug?  It's obviously the AI showing irrational and probably unintended behavior?  The dwarves would know that skeletons aren't bothered by stragulation, or probably would figure it out after a couple days of doing it.  AI doing stupid things constitutes a bug, even if it's hard to classify it or fix it.

I was aware of it at some point, but I'm not sure if I tried a first pass on a fix or just noted it down already in the list of future wrestling improvements.  In any case, I'll note it down in the bug list.
