Minotaurs - better adventurers than semi-megabeasts
« on: September 10, 2008, 07:28:02 am »

Recently i added in little entity files with [INDIV_CONTROLLABLE] to various creatures, like the bronze colossus (that was fun  :D) and various humanoid chasm creatures.

Turns out Minotaurs make decent adventurers, but aren't really powerful enough to match up (unarmed) to the other semi-megas. I started a minotaur and went down to a cave, wandered around and met a cyclops. Who one-shotted me... Made another 'taur, bought an axe with socks from a priest who lost his leg during world gen, went back and chopped off the cyclop's head (and various other bits on the way).

Minotaurs are only size 9 for goodness' sake. It's enough to put them on an even footing with grizzly bears, but doesn't mean that much without equipment, wolves-spawning-in-backpacks managed to get lucky shots and kill a minotaur or two. Give them a great axe though (they can wield them one-handed), and they become nigh unstoppable in melee. Helps to train up wrasslin' of course, and is fairly easy to manage legendary skill in a short time (even without zombies). Their natural damblock from their size means you can go all 'barbarian' and forgo a shield too. Good thing since there pretty much no to get armor your size except with more extensive modding.

So basically, they have a bit of a boost from their size but aren't ridiculously overpowered like bronze colossi.

It is easy to get clothing however, i found that out while trying to put together a team of 'monster' humanoids. If you settle in a town and are missing certain pieces of clothing, if you start/reactivate another adventurer or start a new fort your old guy will get free clothes their size. Interestingly enough, if they have nondescript equipment/jewelry theres a chance these might be upgraded. I settled a lizardman with normal iron armor from a goblin (would have been steel if it weren't for that [STOUT] tag...) i had stealthily set on fire (so they wouldn't aggro me) in a human town and when i came back to her helmet grew a couple +s, her chainmail got -s and her goblin bone earring got a *decoration* added to it, among other things.

Just make sure the uniform of the human town doesn't consist of skirts, dresses and turbans. Dern weird town....  :-X

Alas, i've only manage to find a fully be-masked civ through modding.  :'(
