Yeah, artifacts go to their relative stockpiles now.

As said earlier, if binned with enough/heavy stuff, most things will be in bins in the stockpiles where you left them if you visit soon after abandoning a fort and coming back with an adventurer. I was able to recover 2 out of 3 artifacts to bling an adventurer as well as masterwork shields/obsidian swords in this way.

The easy way is to get all the good stuff into a bin or several, note what wood the bins are made from, save game, go into the raws and change the density of those woods to something absurdly high, abandon, get your stuff.  It won't have moved at all.

I think, since I'm cheating anyway, I'll take the route of modding the RAW files for this.  I've already inserted the 'free wood' cheat and modified it to make featherwood from nothing rather than oak from stone.  :D

Featherwood will be good for the bins.  Light to haul during Fortress mode, then mod them to be the heaviest thing in the freaking game, just long enough to loot the place in Adventurer mode.  Then I can reset the featherwood and repeat whenever I need a new adventurer haul.
