Game is now much better from design standpoint, I mean alot better. I pretty much like everything done. This FFH guy did great job, but AI... I played one random map on Normal/Challenging and it's was not challenging at all. I ended up running around with just four warrior heroes smashing things, no problem. Seems like AI cant gather huge armies and strike intelligently. They are very passive and may show their faces after like 20 turns after DOW, which is not seems threatening at all. But, I played just one game, so this must be coincidence or bad turn of events.

From what I understand, the quality of the AI is dependent on map size: the smaller the map, the better your opponents will perform. This is because Stardock didn't test the AI on any map larger than medium, and the poor little AIs get horribly confused trying to do too much at once on higher settings.

For all the lovely things in that game, I think you still get assaulted by vast armies of pioneers (the game's settler unit) or lone heroes with more wounds than, um, a wounded thing. If the AI bothers to attack you at all when they declare war, that is... It's a shame, I really want to like the game, but I find so much in it that is broken or just irritating. Such as the horrendous character/faction designer that hides important information, doesn't let you delete a previously constructed faction (so I have three versions of the same faction with minor changes). Oh, and there's the balance issues.

I recall many people swear by GalCivII and the game certainly improved greatly over time, so Fallen Enchantress might be fixed in about five years or so.

I don't know, I did have the AI come at me with six full armies of normal troops (he apparently had the world's worst luck with getting heroes, but did manage to build up a lot of land and cities.) including multiple Juggernauts per army.

It's also where I learned that Shrink is the most overpowered ability in the game. I used it on every big enemy after that and it turned the most powerful monsters in the game into pushovers. All for 4 mana per cast!

In my experience the AI doesn't do too bad, but the problem is it has the same flaw of a Civ's AI. It values the quantity of troops, over the actual quality. I have seen it attack one of my cities with like 3 or 4 full stacks of troops, that I can beat back with a fraction of because it just uses a lot of cheaper, weaker troops. I think the real problem is because FE lets you create your own units, where as the AI only uses stock units, which are not really all that great compared to ones you can customize yourself.

Still, I personally have a lot of fun in FE just building up a town and looking at the map. It looks neat seeing it all filled up.

if you do get it, I highly recommend getting the 'Stormworld' mod - it adds a whole bunch of stuff (new races, maps....) and buffs up the AI.
Here's a link: http://fallenenchantress.nexusmods.com/mods/4/

There's also a 'bigger maps' mod on the nexus site as well that's pretty cool.
