Weird behavior
« on: August 17, 2006, 10:40:00 am »

I have a carpenter who absolutely doesnt want to do any work. She just woke up, came outside, walked a little this way, that way, then came back to her bedroom (without falling asleep again).
Then she starts again, walks around for a while, then returns to her room.
I have lots of beds queued, lots of wood, doors are unlocked, she is "extatic" and all that, so whats the problem ?

Have you pressed j to see the job list and figured out what she's trying to do?  She might just be on break at the moment, and there's nothing you can do about that except to wait for her to get off her lazy ass again.

Another common reason for carpenters not working is not having enough axes.

She is not trying to do anything, not on break, and carpenters do not need any axes. Woodcutters do.

Ah, that's right.  Mine usually do both so I forget.

It really says "no job," huh...the only other obvious thing to check is what things she is assigned to do.  You could turn them all on and see if she's willing to do anything at all.

Another thing would be to turn all cancellation messages on in the options menu in case she really is trying to do something but can't and the messages aren't coming through.  Otherwise I'm at a loss.

Also noticing something strange in farmers. They plant one seed, then go to the farthest point from farm and then it hits them : "Oh, why dont i plant another seed ?" Losing lots of time on those dimwits. Didnt had this kind of thing happening last two times, farmers just planted and planted until they wanted to sleep or eat.

For the carpenter, also definitely check if the carpenter shop "blocking squares" are blocking the door so he can't get into it to do work.  When you [q] over it, the blocking squares are, uhhh, the flashing blocky things.
