One of my butchers went into a trance and created a 1.44 mil value chain at a clothiers workshop from 3 adamantium cloth. Not really a big glitch but kind of wacky.

what was the quality of the cloth used?

also.. Adamantine cloth is still metal, so technically it can still be made into a chain

I don't think that qualifies as a bug as such.

A strange mood in DF is like a Wish spell in AD&D 2nd: It can break any rule it wants to.

If a dwarf in a mood things they can do something, they actually can do that something. People reported metal forging without fuel or the occasional bed made of stone. So, material limitations do not exist for moody dwarves.

So, you are kind of lucky (that should be one pretty expensive chain) and should rejoice that you have such a precious piece of furniture (remember, with the same material, the dwarf could have just as easily created a useless toy hammer artifact) you can put in some well at a strategic location.

In my current fort a mood resulted in a chain made out of turtle shell. It's cool. Prisoners are comforted by the sight of it. I also have a floodgate made of kobold bone. I've placed it on a prominent place in my water systems. Definitely not a bug.
