Moronic Dwarfs
« on: September 06, 2008, 03:08:14 pm »

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dwarfs live on the south side of the river, so they walk ALL THE WAY AROUND ACROSS THE BRIDGE THEN BACK DOWN RIVER! to have a god damn drink of water from the north side.  I'm down to 3 unhappy dwarfs who hopefully won't emo themselves.

Sigh, it just happened again AFTER I set my drinking area to the south side.  Thankfully I just got immigrants.

prob your river water is contaminated.  Then they'll try to go to the uncontaminated sources.  Just build a well to solve your drinking problems.

Does a well uncontaminate water?

Dwarves prefer the civilization of wellwater over drinking straight from the source of anything non-alcoholic. I don't remember what happens to the water quality, but if I had to guess, I'd say nothing. Still, wells keep your dwarves out of harm's way.

So does booze, of course.

Wow, I hope you stopped the lemming rush of dwarves that attempt to retrieve the bodies!

And thus did the dream of dwarven antigravity fade away, not with a massive explosion or a flood of magma, but with a whimper.

I'm going to be depressed all day now.

This isn't applicable when they drowned.

It would seem so.  I digged an underground cistern (on a map which freezes) off a section of a brook that is "contaminated" (dwarves won't drink from this section), but once I plonk down a well, and zone a drinking zone around it, it works perfectly since then.

note, make sure have a grate/verticle bars in you channel to the river from the well to avoid the wrath of the river animals. They don't like being denied their meal.
