What does the fort of a god look like?
« on: August 21, 2008, 09:32:58 pm »

I just realized that, even though Tarn Adams has been playing with his own game for years and years... I've never seen a single one of his forts. There's a pic of a lake in the map depot by him, but that's it.

I'm curious as to his layout design and strategy. Anyone ever found/seen anything of his?

I make some pretty good forts without cheating.

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the cosmos. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips, I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my veins. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk and free throw.

If I designed a game like this, I don't know if I could even play it.

Actually this kind of game is about the only game you could play after making it imo. (Or making it up to the current level, lol)

It must be slightly disenchanting, being the guy behind the curtain.

If I remember correctly, the 'wizard' seemed to be having a lot of fun behind that curtain.  It's probably much more interesting to him when weird/unexpected actions happen.

Personally when I'm developing new games/programs I know if it will be successful if I, as the developer, have fun playing and testing it before it's even complete. If I don't, then I start over and try again and try to make it more interesting and fun. At least this way even if it's an unpopular program I'll still have fun doing it.

It's obvious Toady likes doing what he's doing (and loves getting paid for it) so he's obviously going about it the same way. I highly doubt though that Toady has the time or the patience to play a full, end-to-end game of DF, considering all the bugs, devnotes, and so on there is to work on.
