[40a] Unrecovered mechanisms
« on: August 18, 2008, 08:46:01 pm »

So in all my matchless wisdom, I didn't realize that you could control multiple devices from a single lever.  I have three bridges that are a part of the entrance gauntlet to my fort, two of which are shortcuts when let down.  I had formerly operated both of those with their own levers.  I deconstructed one lever, which worked fine... however the mechanism in the bridge was left there (and no TSK assigned to it, either... though I didn't check jobs).  I linked the bridge up with the OTHER lever that's already connected to another bridge, me derfs got a couple of mechanisms and installed them as normal.  So now this bridge has two mechanisms.

It's not exactly game-breaking, and I figure there's a good chance that it's a known "feature," but I didn't see it with searching and figured better safe than sorry.

If you connect a lever to something and deconstruct the lever, the connecting mechanism will stay in the something. This is a known annoyance and I have no idea whether Toady plans to fix this or not.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

The only way to get rid of it is to deconstruct the bridge.  Then rebuild it.
at worse, you lost one mechanism.  Unless its a bauxite mechanism, you shouldn't worry about it.

One of the toads decided to go for a swim in the moat - presumably because he could path through the moat to my dwarves. He is not charging in, just loitering in the moat.

The toad is having a nice relaxing swim.
The goblin mounted on his back, however, is drowning.

Yeah, no, I figured that was probably the case on both counts.  Just wanted to report it to be surely sure.  Not gonna lose any sleep over a base quality Alunite mechanism, or even bother deconstructing the bridge to find out.
