Product:100:2:Horrible Death
« on: August 19, 2008, 03:57:24 pm »

Hello, I have been playing DF for a while and have started modding, just to see what I could do.
I had some interesting results.

I had a carver need bone for an artifact, and decided to see if I could solve this problem with some modding.
I edited one of the reactions to read thus:

[REACTION:FREE_BONE]
[NAME:summon bone]
[SMELTER]
[REAGENT]
[PRODUCT:100:1:BONES:NO_SUBTYPE:BONE:TURTLE]

I thought it would create a bone.
Instead, I got a message saying one of my dwarves had 'frozen to death'.
I thought this was hilarious, so I tried to make it again, this time while watching.  The hapless smelter went up in a cloud of red, which turned out to be boiling bones.  The sheer power of the blast also caught a mule standing a few squares away.

Fun though it was, I was wondering what the correct reaction entry would be for bone of any sort, and more interestingly, what was it that I was smelting?

You were making a bone with SPEC_HEAT 0 I would believe.
Incidentally it would probably appear just as "bone"
That red you see?  Most definitely the blood of the victim.
As for the proper entry: Toady changed the stuff for 40a and nobody really knows what happened.
Our old workaround doesn't work anymore, and there's no documentation on the new method.
