Goblins really phoning it in...
« on: August 15, 2008, 09:44:48 pm »

My current fort (a 20 year old, 270 dwarf behemoth) is sieged on a regular basis but the gobbos never bring any more than 60 troops at the most, and usually only about 45. Aren't sieges supposed to get worse as time goes by?

My last fort only lasted ten years and by the end was getting at least as many goblins if not more plus 8-10+ trolls.

Sheesh, I dunno. Maybe a bunch of them keep calling in sick.

Wow. I wish I could have a fort last for 10 years. I never have been sieged, but I hear that they are supposed to get more intense. Maybe they get killed on the way over? Thats just a guess, do any of them appear already wounded?

try defending your fort with no traps, no moat, no soldiers...just narrow hallways and seige weapons  ;D

The end result looks sort of like leaving the top off of a blender... and then stuffing a live animal into it.

Make more wealth? (congrats at having such a old fort btw, never made it past 5 years myself)

I don't think wealth is the problem. I keep cranking out crafts, mining new areas and getting new artifacts. The goblins just can't be bothered to make the effort.

Maybe it has something to do with all but two of their civ leaders being dead? All they have left are the goblin king and one master swordsgoblin that is currently sitting on his thumbs in a tin cage.

Well for one, i had my first siege, and they ran away after about a single wave of arrows from my marksdwarves. apparently, goblins don't like it when the first 5 people to go under a bridge get riddled with holes.

Secondly, i think you should try killing that master sword goblin, maybe that will force the king to come. Also, out of curiosity, have you been attacked by troll groups yet?

No, it's not. As with migrants to your fort, generic goblins with no real history (born X years ago to unknown parents) are generated infinitely and a certain number will pop up at the edge of the map every time a siege hits.

As an aside, Awayfarer, there's a misspelling in your sig. 'S' appears four times in the correct spelling of "possession" :P

There are three things I know about dwarves:
1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

Real coolness will be when all the gobbos are actual worldgen gobbos with a thousand years of ancestry.
Alas, my current world has about 500 gobs and 1500 dwarves, calculating with average consumption rates both species would be extinct within three of my fortresses. ;)
