[39f] Feature or Bug? (Lack of plants/drinks)
« on: August 10, 2008, 06:00:30 pm »

On my embark screen here, it's missing most of the usual things, like ropes, bags, cloth, plants, seeds, drinks, some clothes, weapons, and armor.

Is this a feature, simply the dwarven civ not being able to supply these things due to them being a world tile away from a warring goblin civ?

I welcome the difficulty though. I'll have to gather seeds from the very few plants in the little green valley that I have. I might have to see if the caravan will come with seeds and plants.

Are you using any mods?

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

It might matter what civ your expedition belongs to? If the only city they have is a tiny village, it would make sense if you didn't have many options. Although I don't know if that part is actually modelled right now, I seem to recall someone having a similar problem when their civ had no cities.

Other than custom reactions and a bit of modding to make the goblins more aggressive, the elves more zerglike, and the megabeasts more invincible, no.

This has been reported before, but I've never been able to get it to happen.  If you put up your save and mods, hopefully I can regen the world from the params and see why it's not working.  Any dwarf civ that has access to a cave river should have subterranean plants of some kind, even if they don't have all of them.  And all dwarf civs should have access to a cave river unless it managed to settle on a single small mountain square where the mountain biome was too small to place all the features.

Sorry, didn't see this in a while, Toady. Terribly sorry.
Also, trade options are as limited as the embark options. I like the fact that I have to get by on the harvested seeds of plants outside and a bunch of meat though.

If it changes anything, I used the nanofortress tool. Shouldn't change anything though, since the rest of my forts using the tool were fine.

Save and raw object files (all I changed): Here

Okay, there was a problem with the single tile mountain civs.  It's fixed for next time, though old saves will still be missing the plants.
