[39e] 'Flying' on top of tree
« on: August 07, 2008, 01:05:05 am »

In adventure mode i found a keep with trees growing next to it. So in the name of science i jumped off the tower to land on top of one of the trees. Instead of dying or taking damage, i was left suspended over the tree with 'Flying' in the bottom text bar. I was stuck. Couldn't move or alt+move off of the tree.

I can repeat this and get pictures if you want, it happened a while ago but i didn't think of making an error report at the time. I forget whether i was able to 'T'ravel away. I think i just savescummed.

This is starting to sound like those 'flying goblins'.

This is becoming too much of a common occurrence.

I seem to recall this being mentioned before, but I also think it bears repeating. On another, less 'on-topic' note, did anyone else think "...at top of lung!" when they saw the thread name?

The two are probably unrelated.
I remember killing a wolf, and his body "landed" on a tile above a tree.
Setting the tree on fire didn't seem to affect him though.

This reminds me of a similar bug I've had some time ago (back in 38c, so it may be fixed now). During a fight, a stray crossbow bolt landed on a tree a few Z layers below. For clarity, imagine the tree being at level 0 and the bolt on top of it on level 1.

When I cut the tree down, the bolt simply remained where it was, floating in the air.

This sounds like the combination of the two flying bugs - (1) the bolt stopped on the tree and was still marked as "flying". (2) When I saved the game later, it was still "flying", and so remained that way forever. Just a guess, though.

Trees used to be handy for getting down from a 2 z-level height, as you could use a tree growing on the ground below as a second step.  The only difference now is that you can't get off once you're on.

I imagine a system where the tree top counts as a floor tile, and people with good jump skill can jump between tree tops, wearing silver barb dyed *Giant Cave Spider Silk* attire...

One of the toads decided to go for a swim in the moat - presumably because he could path through the moat to my dwarves. He is not charging in, just loitering in the moat.

The toad is having a nice relaxing swim.
The goblin mounted on his back, however, is drowning.
