Shift key gets stuck
« on: August 10, 2008, 12:33:00 am »

So this has been a persistent bug through all the versions since it was implemented. When I hold the shift key to rapidly move the cursor across the screen, it almost always gets "stuck" pushing the cursor in a direction, until I "unstick" it by trying to push the cursor in that very direction. I'm sure this has been mentioned before but I couldn't find it in the bug list.

I've also had this happen. In my experience it only happens when I use the numpad,  not when using the normal arrow keys. If the numpad key has been pressed multiple times, it's not possible to 'unstick' it, as described above. At that point I have to alt-tab into another window, before alt-tabing back, which'll stop the cursor.

I think the alternative meathod was to press shift, then the direction key, then release the direction key, then release shift.  The bug has to do with releasing shift before the direction key.

I've had this problem before as well, and have discovered a workaround. If you toggle numlock off, the numpad works perfectly with any of the modifier keys (shift, ctrl, alt.) I'm not exactly sure how it works, since the keys should be sending values that don't match with what is in interface.txt, but it does work. Hope this helps.
