[39e] Mountain Gnome can't touch this!
« on: August 08, 2008, 01:39:34 am »

So. I'm playing a new fort and early in the fort's young life one of my miners lets a nice piece of ceiling fall with him on it. He gets knocked to the floor beneath him. Well, after finally getting beds placed in my-soon-to-be barracks, he decides that he is now able to go rest. That's fine. I have other miners to take his place.

Anywho.

Later in the year, several Mountain Gnomes come in and start prancing around being gnomes. A few of them try to run down to my stockpiles to steal some booze, but I enabled one of my miners into a recruit and beat the snot out of most of them. All fine right?

This is where the strange occurrence happened.
One of the Mountain Gnomes came up to my resting dwarf and is doing... something. I think it might be attacking my dwarf... I think. I'm not sure if he is getting wounds from the gnome. That's all fine and all, but the dwarf that I activated for duty won't touch the gnome. I even stationed him right next to the gnome accosting my resting dwarf.

I checked all of the bugs and there was nothing like this there. I can provide a save if needed.

Well, I have no idea what the gnome was doing, but my dwarf did just die of thirst. I ended up removing the bed the dwarf was on, but the injured dwarf died just before I was able to. After the dwarf died, the Mountain Gnome got punted pretty hard by my conscripted soldier.

Thankfully I have the save backed-up if it is needed to see what caused this.

It is clear that it was a vampire gnome, and he sucked the booze right out of the dwarf.

And the miner was petrified by the sight of such an act of cruelty!

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

It could be the same bug that let the hippo and the crocodile kill soldiers one by one.  I should probably still look at the save though in case it's different (I have saves for those).  I'll need the region folder in some kind of zip/rar/7z, and any new objects that were added to the raw folder.  If it's less than 20 megs, you can send it to toadyone@bay12games.com.  You can also try The Dwarf Fortress File Depot which has a special section for bugged saves.

Here is the link to the save. Let me know when you have obtained the file as I can't have it on this site for too long.
