The Human Forest Retreat of Libaleesa
« on: August 03, 2008, 02:09:30 pm »

I genned a custom large world with 30% megabeast stoppage, (I've never met one yet but I really want to) and I noticed it genning a Human Forest Retreat. Is this intentional? I made a similar world with 20% megabeasts on version D and found humans living in goblin towers. I didnt complain then as it was version d and i thought maybe it had been fixed.
Whats the deal?
also, minor note, i had to make a new profile with my secondary e-mail, as it said my old profiles email was wrong but said no such profile exists with my old username and email but also wouldnt let me re-register as it already had that username and email registered ???
no biggie, just thought id let you know. ( well first bit is a biggie, second bit isnt)

Civilizations will invade other sites and take them over. Except for goblins and elves, which will just murder and/or eat everyone and make ruins.

ok thanks,
BTW toady, cannibal elves? that is pure genius.I hope we get the fluff for this eventually. makes them so much more interesting than before, when they just annoyed me ( no criticism, I realise the game is a work in progress, and at like... 30% completion its already my all-time favourite, well, 'nuff said. as soon as i get a job, im gonna pay you what would be paid for an AAA list game)
cheers

That means they are at war with your parent civilization, aka at war with you.

actually, WAR means they are at war. -------------------- just means they will actively attack you, because they're goblins.

Though I think humans should turn forest retreats into towns.

They build in them, so they kind of do. But I take the point that once you've got a town hall, it's not a F.R.
I once had an elf hero who had to flee from his home as a child. He turned up a year later in a nearby F.R. It gets weird when you factor in the fact that he fled from an elfin-run F.R. conquered by a human civ to a human run F.R. where he spent the rest of his immortal life living in hovels, worshiping gods and goddesses and warring against elves and other enemies of humans.

Well, today I made a pocket world with a few tweaked settings...while generating (end year 10000, wohooo!), I noticed a dwarfen forest retreat. It turns out, that elves were in constant, yearly wars with humans since year 1, and some years later also dwarfs which defeated them in year 20. After that, they established a new government and other dwarfs soon came and continued to do so for the next 9980 years.

What I find to be the most interesting thing is that apparently there were still elves there, ruled by the Dwarfs, he he he.
Or at least one, which was eaten by a hidra some 100 years later.

hehe funny, it looks like I am the only one who finds this change quite annoying...but again elves for me -> tolkien's elves. Elves will be noble creatures in my TC mod for sure. Cannibal "title" should go for rather uncivilized creatures like lizardmen..but again this stuff is quite subjective. :)

dwarfen forest retreat.
Did you visit it? Did they dig down?

And for me, elves -> Santa's helpers. But really, I hope Toady runs as far as he can with the "elves are crazy fiends" thing. I can see eating fallen enemies falling under "waste not, want not" (they don't eat everyone after the battle though, just who they killed) but I hope they just get worse

Started playing in DF mode. On an island. With a human town on it. But I've chosen site with magma, away from town. And now I wait to see if humans will trade with me.
Also, after checking my maps a bit a bit, I've found another pocket world with dwarfen forest retreat. Will check, shall report.

Perhaps Toady should rename the elves, I dont think that theres a game world where elves are cannibalistic zerg type sickos. :D
