That was mighty unexpected

Hi!

In order to check on the megabeasts in a really large world I created, I used a few adventurers (thus far, I was only able to uncover the legend of one of the about 13 living megabeasts in 1050 of that world, even though at least one more of them has had contact with humans). While I had hints for two megabeasts which had rampaged in human towns in recent history, I figured that there may be one or more megabeasts people already know about...

Well, one of my characters was a dwarf and after talking with some guy at her home, I had her walk the surrounding countryside which was under the control of a human civ which had conquered some elf civ in the distant past. There was no war between the dwarves and the humans, so I went from town to town to gather information.

Well, things turned interesting when I visited one of the human forest retreats. Upon appearing in the mayor's building, I tried to move - and I got hailed by a human elite crossbowman telling me to prepare to die! And yes, that guy meant business.

A dead dwarf later, I decided to use a human from that civ to investigate (the guy simply wouldn't show up in the legends, at least not associated with the dead dwarf). I was mighty relieved that I did not get shot and killed when I arrived at the retreat and that guy actually boasted of his great dead of slaying the dwarf...

I still don't know why that guy considers the dwarves his enemies, but I was intrigued to find that despite the good relationships with the civ as a whole, there can be something like private grievances on a personal or maybe town level (at least that is what I suspect).

Wow, whenever you play the game, you really discover something new.

Was the elven civilization that the humans conquered at war with the dwarfs before the conqueration?
The guy might have been taken prisoner and converted to elfdom beforehand, then kept his hatred of dwarfs all those years.

That's just me guessing, though.

I've had similar things happen.

I was playing a human and had recruited some elves to follow me, and returned to a nearby human city and went shopping, had a grand old time, but, when traveled back to the mead hall, the mayor of the city immediately shot and killed all of the elves.  He left me alone though, and, after the attack, I talked to him and he told me to go kill some diplomat in their city.  I'd been to the city after becoming a mercenary for this civ, so, I imagine they weren't at war at the time or they would've attacked me, right?

Humans have "[ETHIC:KILL_NEUTRAL:JUSTIFIED_IF_NO_REPERCUSSIONS]", so maybe that's why?

Hi!

Well, the elves in that area got whiped out around the year 200 and that crossbowman was born in 1002...

I tried to figure out why the dwarves were not welcome, but to no avail. I have decided to give up on that question and explore some other things. For those curious about this, I have uploaded the originally genned world (before any gameplay):

Depot

Create a dwarf from the bigger/not isolated dwarven civ and then go east and a bit south. Then it won't be long ere you find "Entrancecrab".
