items in bins aren't tradable?
« on: August 03, 2008, 07:05:36 pm »

Alright... so, i have cloth bins, leather bins, clothes bins, and other finished good bins.....

This being the... I think 4th summer, the human caravan showed up and i can't trade anything that is in a bin.  I could trade things in bins when the elves showed up in the spring, and I haven't modded the game in any way.  I haven't even stopped playing since the elven caravan came.  Has anyone else had this problem?  I couldn't find it when i searched for bugs

When you designate the bin to be taken to the trade depot, the dwarves will take the bin and all items in it to the depot. (except mood-made items) You can then select the individual items in the bin at the trade screen.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

What exactly is occurring when you try to trade the items? Do the items in the bin show up on the trade screen? Are you able to select them individually? Are you trying to trade the whole bin with the items? In which case it will pop up with a [T]rade notification next to the bin instead of the individual item, else you will see the [T]rade designation next to each individual item you are trying to trade.

The problem isn't while I am trading, but getting the bins to the depot.

the bins don't show up in the trade screen.  I can't tell the dwarves to take them to the trade depot; its like they don't exist.

I have looked through the crafts, instruments, toys and all to find any bins, and couldnt.  then I looked through the cloth and all the different types of clothes.  None of the bins of any type showed up on the designation screen to go to the depot.

They have been sitting in the finished goods pile, without any problems, and now I can't trade them.  I can't trade the items in the bins either, because I can't see the bins from the trade depots designation list.  New finished goods that are not in bins can be traded, and cloth and clothes that aren't in bins can be traded, but anything within a bin just doesn't seem to show up on the trade good designation list.  I tried removing the finished goods pile making a new one, but that didn't help.

Try using "d" to sort the Move Goods to Trade Deport window by value.  That is how I find the bins buried among other stuff.

Is there any chance you have a "don't export Xxxxx" mandate active?  If so then by default the interface will filter out anything that would break that mandate - and that includes a bin if it contains any mandated item, or if it is itself made of a mandated material.  Hit "m" to toggle culling on mandates.

You'd think handing out the crossbows to brain damaged dwarfs would be a bad idea but it isn't

Yeah, both search for "bin" and make sure that you don't cull for mandates ([m]).
