Oooh! Whats coming next!!!!

Hell yeah! Ive just spotted that the "whats coming next" section is being updated! ... and YESSSS military action is coming!

"After the cleanup following the most recent release, there are a few goals. The first is to get overland civs to dislike each other, raise armies and destroy or capture each others cities. The next is to get them to do this to you in dwarf mode, rather than having them generate armies on top of you periodically. The third goal is to let you raise armies from your fortress and attack them. Adventurers will be able to be present during army battles, or be present in towns when unfortunate circumstances arise, but they won't be able to affiliate with armies until later.

To achieve these goals, a few new items are up on dev: Core44, Core45, Core46 and Core47. Core44 and Core47, overland migrants and cleaning of worthless historical figures, are required to keep the world alive when wars start decreasing populations. Core45 and Core46 are the actual mechanics of starting wars, raising armies and attacking other armies and towns. The dwarf mode part was already established in Core26 (now narrowed) and Core27. The bulk of information formerly in Core26 is present in the Army Arc and will be re-Core'd as new goals come up.

Because the armies used to attack you would actually be raised from the populations of the attacking civilizations (Core26), the attacks you make from your fortress will have tangible effects on invasions against you (not that you need to worry if you are just crushing them with a drawbridge, but that's a side issue). Whether or not the current pace of the game is maintained depends on the effectiveness of repopulation efforts (Core44) -- these are adjustable so any problems can be corrected."


Now all we will need after these....is diplomacy! Diplo menu should consist 2 separate things. 1. Your relations with the given civilization, 2. Diplo actions [make alliance, peace treaty, war, make vassal, ask for military help etc.]
I just cant wait for the military/diplo system to be added.

Heheh... I'm pretty sure that was talking about the release before the great October 29 release.  But it is pretty cool that he can focus on armies and civilizations now that the dwarf mode has all the requested features.

I'm so going to piss off everyone in the world and have their armies stream ontop of my 30(0) spearmen in my narrow hallway  :roll:

I think that the new version offers lot of cool defense tactics. Like you can make towers outside and station marksdwarves on the top [I guess they will shoot at the enemy from the top of the tower??], dig out a channel below the fortress level outside, leave some pillars to hold the upper levels, place traps, link the pillars to a level and when the invaders are coming...pull the lever! Also water defences should still work etc. All of these will be handy when the military system will be in..we gonna send out most of our army to conquer, so we will need all possible defenses at the home base. ^^
