Wounds don't suck so much now?
« on: August 19, 2006, 09:11:00 pm »

I had a newbie hunter get his skull fractured by a deer, and was getting ready for a lot of tantrum spam followed by a messy death. To my surprise, the bedridden hunter not only stayed content but got happier while resting. Did the happiness effects of wounds get changed? Granted, the broken head was the only wound he had (compared to previous victims who went mad from multiple fractures), but still that's quite a change. Was wound behavior changed in the latest version?

Actually, speaking of wound healing.

I had a marksdwarf who got multiple fractures, and spent most of his time unconcious. Unfortunately, this didn't class as sleeping, so when he started to recover he was exhausted and tantrumed himself to death.

Maybe the happiness benefit came from them being helped?  That was added not so long ago.

Yeah, I don't think they find KOs restful right now, though the Rest job should do it.

The times I've personally been knocked out I woke up nauseous, weak, and disoriented. I don't know how restful that should be.

This is just my uninformed opinion, but it sounds logical that getting KO'd should accomplish keeping the body still so that it can recuperate physically, assuming nothing happens to make it worse while you're out. You might still feel crappy when you wake up but it doesn't mean your wounds haven't stitched up a little.

The biological function of unconsciousness is theoretically to prevent an organism from getting injured further, so I think it makes perfect sense that someone who goes unconscious should heal up a bit while out.  Biologically it seems sound: your body says, "Okay, time out!  Give me a chance to deal with the wounds you've given me already!"
