[39d] Temperature (and other?) Map Exports
« on: July 26, 2008, 01:41:33 am »

I've exported a scant few maps other than hight and biome+site, but this one struck me as really odd.

I didn't check every square in the portioned areas of this map, but I did check the squares of very right edge, marked by the bounded area on the left side (this is a split map showing the same locations on each side).  Temperature map was opened in Paint and had a bucket fill of the red are to show it's uniformity.  The text indicates what the embark screen says the temperature is.

So...either there's a bug in the export, in that temperatures above a certain range are all the same, or...I'm not reading it right...or....?
There's no way a "warm" a "hot" and a "scorching" biome all have the same export temperature.  I noticed a similar vein on the other temp export I did over in the 3D Terrain Visualizer thread, though there was more variation there, but there was a LARGE swath of rgb (255,255,255) there as well.

It has to cap of course, but it looks like the cap is way lower than intended.  I'll note it down.

I haven't done rainfall, vegetation, or drainage yet, but you might want to take a look and see if there's any funny business going on there.

As for Temp, middle grey (128,128,128) should be temperate (70 degrees?) with colder being blacker.  Mmm...0 is probably a good enough value for "as cold as it gets" with 140 being the cap on the other end.  Though if you want to accomidate people who do stupid extremes you could make it logrithmic, though that might be harder to accomplish.
