Topic says it all. It seems the dwarves refused to path over the ashy stairway (which happens to be the main one-tile artery of my fortress).

At first I thought the stairway was gone, so I tried to build a new one, but the task was always canceled as the dwarf couldn't find a route (though it was accessible from the side, at least), I try to dig a down stairs next to the tile and an up stairs below that, but they keep canceling the up stairs, as they can't path to it (but I know they can't path to it- that doesn't usually cancel the dig designation.)

I haven't tried much else as all the dwarves are still trying to path through the tile, but they're spamming me with cancellation messages.

To sum up, fireball ash on stairway = extremely confused dwarves.

I can give you a save where they're all freaking out, if you need one (though probobly not till tomorrow).

 I blame it on superstition.

Buck up friendo, we're all on the level here.
I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Okay, I'll note it down.  I think I see what's wrong, so I won't need the save.

If the bug is related to connected components in the pathing, then save and reload may be workaround until Toady fixes the bug and releases a new version (since that forces a recompute).
