Hi!

Name Lips: Personally, I don't think the time is odd. Just think about it: a broken leg with medieval healing applied (or actually not even that (^_^;; ). Given how they treat their ill dwarves, we should actually have a major portion of the wounded die of infectuous diseases and even those surviving suffering severe limitations after recovery (stiff leg, reduced lung capacity, etc.).

But I do see a problem with animals. At least in the past, animals would not recover from serious wounds and there was nothing that could be done about them except for selling them off to a caravan. So, having animal care function like health care and being as effective would be really nice.

I've also had problems with dwarves not getting fed/watered when injured, and one instance of an injured dwarf not getting rescued.

The main problem I have isn't necessarily keeping them fed and watered, it's getting the wounds to heal at all. It's really not reasonable for a dwarf to spend a year and a half in bed because of a broken leg. Perhaps the percentage chance of a wound healing as a season goes by should be dramatically increased?

I think the times are sensible, assuming unskilled health care.  However, a skilled nurse should be able to dramatically reduce healing time. Not sure to what degree it has an effect atm.

On the issue of health care, from a time period roughly equivalent to DF, the Romans were quite skilled in medicine.  Surgery was routinely performed on wounded soldiers.  They even invented the technique of using staples for suturing wounds.  They even figured out that silver is hypoalergenic and used it to make the staples.  The staples were larger than the modern version, but they worked very well, according to historical sources.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that a dwarf with access to a skilled physician should be able to recover from some fairly nasty wounds in a reasonable amount of time.  Obviously, if you drop Urist into a vomit encrusted bed, menaced with spikes of dwarf blood, with hanging rings of filth; and in addition, deprive him of food and water... well, we've all seen the results.
