[39c] Bad dreams interrupt rest?
« on: July 20, 2008, 06:55:39 am »

So I'm on a site with some legendary cyclops, and the first merchant  guards get slaughtered. No big deal, forbid all their stuff. Looks like I forgot to forbid a couple, 'cause I got a peasant, a woodcrafter and a planter running towards the cyclops to recover some nice steel armor.

So  then I had one death and two wounded, who my dwarves brought right back home. As soon as they were tucked in to bed, I got a message that their rest was interruped by a  cyclops. At first this scared me, but after making sure ol' one eye was sitting near his cave, I sought out the dwarves, who were still tucked up in bed, with "no job".

I fear that they may not be brought food and water, thus dying from their wounds or thirst.

Their dreams don't wake them up (do they even have them anymore?  there was that hardcoded one from before), and it does a line-of-sight check for interruptions, so I'm not sure what happened there.  Rest in the current version is messed up, but without a job I don't know what they are doing.  They are probably caught in some limbo where they are in bed so they won't call to be brought to a bed, but they don't know how to restart their rest jobs either, so they'll be healing slower and might forget to ask for food as well.

I think the "bad dreams" thing was just a joke, since they got interrupted by the cyclops while they were in bed, presumably sleeping after having an encounter with it. But since resting doesn't necessarily mean sleeping, maybe it was just PTSD instead ;)

On a more serious note, I wonder if their positions aren't being updated properly when they're hauled to a bed to rest, similar to how goblins that are dumped in magma (used to?) cause fires where ever they were originally captured? That could explain how a cylops that's (presumably) across the map could interrupt them.

Thats true! Been an in-game year since i recovered them, and they have not asked for food or water once, but they dont seem to need it... And they havent healed at all yet.
