dwarfort.exe hitting my firewall
« on: July 20, 2008, 10:12:47 pm »

Hey y'all, I think I'm going to have to clean out my computer; my firewall asked me if I wanted to let dwarf fortress broadcast to the local network.  I'm assuming my .exe got changed by something on my computer, but I thought I'd check if anyone else has seen this.  While idling looking at a menu, I get the firewall message.

I downloaded the 39c small size zip today (again), but it's the first time I've seen this happen.

This is, I believe, the second reported instance of this.

Weird.

Yeah, I'll confirm this, because I know for sure I've seen another instance of this being reported.

1) Forbid it
2) do a search of your hard drive for "dwarfort.exe" and see if there's anything sneaking going on.  I've heard of viruses renaming themselves to programs (highly used ones, if they can find the data).

Yeah, I've seen a couple reports now.  I ran the exe through various scanners and they haven't found anything, and I don't even know how to code network stuff myself.  I have no idea what's going on.

OK thanks for the info.  I haven't found anything malicious on my computer... from the random timing of it, I'd think that dwarfort.exe is being blamed for something else doing a broadcast.  It's not even trying to contact an internet address, just broadcast on the weird 224 subnet that everyone gets by default.
