My trap just killed my dwarf

A standard weapon trap. Nothing fancy.

I got a notice: "Kikrost Onulkegeth has been killed by a trap."

And there he was, a corpse and a head detached from each other, on one of my weapon traps.

I didn't think that could happen. There are no enemies nearby, no kobold thieves. It's a well-traveled part of my fort. There is a depot a couple spaces away with a human merchant party unloading.

There's also a recruit on the exact same square as Kikrost's corpse and the trap, just minding his own business walking by.

I have no clue what just happened...

They now trigger traps if they fall asleep on them.

Natural selection at its finest.

Is it just sleeping on the tile that triggers the trap, or is it falling over/laying down in general.

I had a weapon trap cut a war dog in two in a heavily trapped narrow corridor, and I've been noticing that my dwarves and animals seem to fall over eachother when they occupy the same square. Could it be that laying down is the trigger rather than sleeping?

Unconsious creatures trigger traps.  Sleeping = Unconsious.
