noob questions about the new version
« on: July 17, 2008, 04:38:18 am »

Hi,

I have a few questions I would like to ask:

1) Why is world generation so fast? (it usually took 5 mins and now it takes less than 1)

2) In the new world I made all the legends were discovered whats up with that? (usually I would have only 30 - 50)

3) What are the white lines in the region map ?(they look like brooks just white and show up as white brooks on the local map)

4) How do I access the map editor?

5) Finally how many mega beasts are on the world and do more spawn later in the game?

Thanks in advance,

~Pie

1. It is making a smaller map.
2. It is set to show all legends.
3. Roads.
4. Dunno
5. No more spawn later and how many there are depends on the map.

Thanks but what do you mean by making a smaller map, I pressed "create world now" like I do all the time.

I don't know how it works but in order for you to save time create new world now makes a smaller map.

Also world gen doesn't necessarily go to the year 1050 anymore.  It may stop at a much earlier year depending on the parameters.  That can make world gen quite a bit faster.

It because you're not generateing much history, pro only to the year 250 or whatever the default megabeats check is.  Running wolrd generation up to the year 1025 (by changeing parameters) takes about an hour for me to generate all the history.

4. "Design New World With Parameters", e: Enter advanced parameters.

The default map size is now Medium (127x127).  If you want a Large map, you have to specify as such in the Design World with Specific Parameters option.

Only if you have mutant dwarves that can pick them up in one hand.

IE: not yet.

No, cows cannot be milked.  Nor can camels.  Only purring maggots.

And you can get purring maggots by placing traps over a chasm, baiting them, and then taming the captured maggots with a dungeon master.

Preferably before someone eats them.

I have heard that if you forbid a purring maggot, the milker can milk them fine but other dwarves won't have a raw purring maggot snack.
