Expanding Bug # 000398, 38c
« on: July 15, 2008, 10:25:01 am »

You can get floating blocks, by dismantling a floor, over a pit, which has a retracted bridge over it.
That's confusing.  Pictures will help:

Code: [Select]
B = Bridge
P = Pit
C = Contructed floor
X = Normal Floor

You can't tell me that those don't *immediately* make an image pop into your mind.  So YES.  They are pictures.  :D

I can't barely make sense of them because you didn't include some blank lines to help seperate out the steps.  If get it right then you channeled a 3x1 space, built a floor over the left most hole.  Next you built a 3x3 bridge over the entire hole, retracted the bridge, and deconstructed the floor.

What you are saying is the bug, is that the block produced from deconstructing the floor realized there was a bridge there and never checked the bridge's state.

That's what I'm reading it as, as well. The block should have fallen down (or perhaps more sensibly have been placed next to the hole by the dwarf doing the deconstruction - not sure if that's how it behaves in normal cases) but ended up suspended in mid-air by the retracted bridge.

This is a curious bug. If the pit were larger (say, 3x3) and you built two constructed floors (one on the edge of the pit and one in the center), would you be able to achieve the same effect? Since this is for 38c, you should download the new version and see if the same thing happens.

I had no trouble interpreting the post.

Okay, I'll paste a link to this thread into my notes for the bug report.
