Sleep/ Dehydration Help
« on: July 14, 2008, 08:50:31 pm »

I recently downloaded Dwarf Fortress, and I've already run into a recurring problem. I've started several fortresses, and they have all ended the same way: My Dwarves fall asleep, and won't wake up, resulting quickly in their death by thirst. I have brought plenty of (and a variety of) drink with me upon embarking, and am choosing areas with ready access to fresh water brooks. I am unpacking the drink I bring with me and placing it in food stockpiles. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

I think that the latest version (July 13th's) has this issue.  Try the one before it.  (The new one JUST came out, noone is quite sure what's up yet)

Basically.  There should be a patch (39b) out in the next day or two that fixes it.

Yes, it snuck in somehow, but it'll likely be fixed tomorrow, after Toady wakes up...

You appear to be brand new to the game. The learning curve on this one is difficult, but it's really rewarding! The game is really immersive, and it's exciting to gradually learn the ropes and create a healthy, functioning, well-defended fortress. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

You can cheat to keep your dwarves awake until the new version is released.

Go to your DF folder->raw->objects->creature_standard.txt; the first entry is the Dwarf object. Add [NO_SLEEP] anywhere in the list for the dwarves. You can make a backup copy of the file first if you want, otherwise just install the upcoming bug-fixed version over it.

I'm not sure if it wakes up your sleeping dwarves or not. Here is what mine looks like:

Code: [Select]
[CREATURE:DWARF]
[NAME:dwarf:dwarves:dwarven]
[TILE:1][COLOR:3:0:0]
[GENPOWER:3]
[INTELLIGENT]
[TRANCES]
[BENIGN]
[CANOPENDOORS]
[PREFSTRING:beards]
[NO_SLEEP]

Has been fixed, check for the latest version and your dwarves should be good now.
