For funny or for cool, the religions of Dwarf Fortress always SOUND very interesting and story inspiring, don't they?  Except this one:   The Competitive Fellowship of Boring.  "Praise be to the mundane!  Grant the things which we already have and leave us in estatic meh-dom."

I was rather surprised

unfortunately he was one of the only three gods with a non-Civilisation race form. I do kinda find the ones with multiple forms to be rather interesting.

I had a female-dwarf god called Osed (O with an accent, if you're into pronunciation) the Perplexing Will, which isn't so much a name as a theodicy.
Anyway, her spheres where dusk, twilight, the dawn, the sun, fire and metals, which is just greedy (from the same fortress; Kekath, ruler of season!)

It's quite acceptable.
Why do we need a god of light and day? There's already enough light when it's day.
But the light in the night is the precious thing so we should pray to that goddes for her to send us some moonlight/clear sky and to let our lanterns burn.

I had a god of mountains whose name translated to 'Finger.'  He appeared as giant sloth, and is one of the only animalistic gods I can remember having.

not much excitement.  Surprising is the dual deityness on water while there is little fishing doing on there used to be a small fishing outpost near the river, but since several ambushes led through there there has been little industry there, not after the sewers were completed and a fishing pond dug out in the undercity.
