Worse than skelks and skelephants?
« on: July 15, 2008, 10:33:58 am »

I think I just found something worse than skelks and skelephants... Skeletal Fire Imps!  Oh the fun of embarking on a volcanic site in a sinister/haunted biome.

Show up with my normal 7 dwarves, check the unit list, "Oh crap, that should be interesting."  4 Skeletal Fire Imps, and of course, the obligatory Skeletal mountain goats.  My hunter/Marksdwarf makes short work of the skeletal goats, no problem killing them.  Then what shows up?  A pack of Skeletal Camels!  Tried to wall myself off as fast as I could just to get underground, but the moment the camels see me, they scare the bejeebuz out of my dwarves, who go running TOWARDS THE VOLCANO!  They make short work of my markdwarves, so what happens next?  The Skeletal Fire Imps decide to come play!  Needless to say, all my dwarves died.

Alright, that was probably the coolest loss I've had in awhile, so let's reclaim it!  Oh crap! The camels and fire imps are standing OVER MY DWARVES BODIES!  My reclaim squad was anihilated within about 3 game days.

If anyone wants to have some fun with this save I don't think I changed any params other than just having it be a medium world, but here is the info.

I'm not sure how to post a screenie in here of the exact location or where to even upload it to, but if anyone wants to try this, on the world map, from the top left, it's 5 spaces in and 3 spaces down, it's the volcano tile on the region map.  I was in a 2x2 map (my comp runs kinda slow when I get alot of dwarves, so I go for small maps) that had the volcano in the bottom right.

Also, when generating the worlds from seeds now, you need to put in the seed, history seed and name seed to get this particular world. (I tried to do it again, and without all 3 I got different worlds.)

Someone needs to draw that. A skeletal fire imp? Is it like a skeleton surrounded by a glowing nimbus of flickering flames, with pinpricks of fire in the eye sockets?

The Dungeon Master goes around pantsless, wearing like fifty cloaks, he's clearly unstable, and I wouldn't ask him too many questions.  You might set him off.

DF  in space!

I saw a zombie titan in the legends of one of my worlds, so it looks like undead megabeasts are also a possibility. (A pity that hardly any survive beyond the first 100 years in the new worldgen.)

I 'visited' a cave in fortress mode and got mobbed by 5 skeletal giants. Ouch.

My woodcutter somehow managed to 'kill' one too.

Of course you can change that in the WorldGen parameters now; percentage of megabeasts dead, 0.

Then you can have fun!

And the civs will only have the starting couples.

I've had a world that generated with skeletal dragons.  They were still around when the world gen stopped (at about year 300-something).
