Crossbows and shields

Crossbows are supposedly two-handed weapons, but lately, I've been telling my crossbowdwarves to carry bucklers as well.  It seems to work somehow.  Is this a glitch?  Does carrying a shield and crossbow at the same time infer a penalty to accuracy?

You can carry a two handed sword with a shield with no adverse effects, and you can definitely carry a bow with just one hand. So crossbow + shield should work fine.
