I want to make a fort in a terrain filled with very aggressive and/or dangerous creatures, but its been a while since i played this game and i dont know which would be a good place to try my luck. I don't care if the map is freezing or treeless, thats not what im looking for, i want the challenge to come from the beasts themselves. If the habitat THEY happen to be in is freezing and treeless then what ever.

What do you all suggest?

Well, lemme think...  Evil glaciers have blizzard men and aggressive ice wolves, those can be a pain at times...   Evil deserts have nightwings, which are often nasty...  And I believe someone suggested evil marshes before, due to the double whammy of harpies and beak dogs.

Also, savage areas will allow for two [LARGE_PREDATOR] groups, along with a lot of beefed-up versions of the standard wildcats.  So you could have two alligators on the map, or two wolf packs, or a giant jaguar and a wolf pack, and so on.

Or, take a river.  Lots of deadly fish.  But you kinda have to get close to them for that to work...

It's always a roulette. You can't tell until you embark.

I'd say pick a savage/haunted/terrifying biome and a chasm. There's a chance that chasm creatures may have a way out which is kind of nasty. Also if you're lucky enough to embark on cave then you should have some nice creatures.

I guess if you're not opposed to a bit of modding you could up the spawn rate on your nasties to increase the challenge and reduce the roulette element.

Roulette element is always there, too often you end with NO creatures. However modding helps, especially the increase of group numbers.
