The prophet has spoken
« on: July 08, 2008, 03:34:25 pm »

While innocently generating a world for my dwarves to live in I came across this absolutely epic generated world name.

This got me thinking, maybe this humble dwarf fortress game has predicted the future. Maybe the year zero was the death of humanity, the day the bombs fell and blew apart our world. Upon the death of humanity, a new world was formed. The Future World was formed. I could expand on this story taking the direction of the Shannara series (which is also a fantasy based millions of years in the future) but I have decided not to as I am a lazy bastard.

What other strangle world names have you guys come across?

Nitharateyo. I guess that would be prounced either as Nith-ar-a-tee-oh or Nith-ar-a-tay-oh, but I'm not sure where the stresses would be. Bah. Never mind.

This is awesome. How many rejects, how is the world, and what's the seed?

One of my very first pocket worlds was called "The Infinite Dimensions".  I thought that was rather funny, considering the size of the map.

Anyways, I think there's a certain list of pre-made world names that it picks from when making a world.  I've got the exact same names too many times for it to be entirely random.

And to think I was excited by my realm of dragons (I'm paraphrasing, I think).

Whoa, I misread that as "Nyarlathotep." Which would have been even cooler.

I once got The infinite dimensions, the realms, the world of, and the lands of Dawn. In a row.

None of them particularly interesting.  :-\

Dawn is lame.
Dusk, however...

I got the never-ending something or other. It was something close enough to "the never-ending story" to make me chuckle.
Now along the lines of "the realms of madness" would make me laugh because its so fitting.

I always seem to get "The Cyclopean Realms" or variations thereof.  Before playing DF I didn't know Cyclopean meant 'really big'.  I figured there was a giant cyclops somewhere in the world.  Or that the world had one giant eye.

Lovecraft used 'cyclopean' all the time, which just makes it even cooler :)
