I'd say the happy thought would also be dependant upon the value of the room to an extend. But there's a catch. Too lavish a temple and religious purists will become unhappy because the faith is more important then the statues ;)

I think that a little bit of chaos (in-fighting, politics) would be a good trade off for a few strong happy thoughts related to a dwarf having his specific temple.

Heck, you honestly don't need to really balance it much:  Dwarves only gather at their god's statue (so there's more intrafaith friendships).  Give a small happy thought for having a temple, and a quality dependant one for worshiping in it.  Happiness versus Time Spent.

Devoutness should probably have a very large effect on how frequently they gather at their temple as opposed to other gathering places. Actually, devoutness should probably have a large effect on a variety of things when it comes to religion.

Also, please remember, that in the real world, friends/lovers will tend to pull those not really affiliated with their religion to services, and thus it would be more realistic to occasionally have non-members attend a temple.

"how bout making statues engravable?"

Id rather have Statues be capable of having descriptions like Engravings first...

You mean, a statue being of something in the same way that an engraving is?  I'm all about that.

I am personally surprised it isn't that way already... I can only guess that Engravings were actually added after statues rather then at the same time. Which would explain it quite easily

I really like this idea. I'd like to see it be a small unhappy thought for a dwarf not having a suitable place to worship. This would also separate dwarves slightly such that not every dwarf would be friends with every other dwarf, resulting in a lessened tantrum spiral effect.

Here is something a bit odd... but cool

If you create a Temple with multiple god statues... there should be a chance a dwarf develops a Pantheon of those gods

This would be so awesome for Migrursut.  Then, only Zefonists would go to the Temple of Zefon instead of it being a public meeting place.

yeah, religious strife and happy thoughts are great ideas, but shouldn't we be thinking of the obvious use for dedicated statutes: a place to sacrifice animals, criminals, and members of other religions?

YES!! We must have sacrifices to make the gods favor us so they will smite our enemies!
