I arrived and he instantly ran for the ratmen.
That's the fastest a dwarf of mine has ever died.

18th felsite.
Seven gallons of booze left.
That's only 7 drinks.
Oh dear oh dear.
There's water, but no dwarf wants to drink that stuff.

19th felsite
The Still is up, mushroom wine for everyone!
I'll have to disguise the flavour somewhat for the Brewer, Doc.
I can see the look in his eyes when ah told him we only had the plump helmets.
I told him he'd have to dwarf up and eat them until we get some more food for him.
We still have some meat, I think.

23rd felsite.
Now, to build the trade depot...
wait a mo.
How in the bleedin' wounds o' Armok did we gerrup here!
There's sheer cliffs on all sides.
I thought the ride felt a bit funny.
Mebbe there's a way up on the other side of the mountain that traders use.
I'll mek it out of wood or bone just for my best friends the elves.
I tell ye, the elves I knew weren't like this lot.

2nd Haematite
White hellfire and boiling stone!
I forgot to tell 'em we needed a mason's workshop.

(some of the fort as of 2nd haematite)

3rd malachite
Everything is running smoothly.
Too smoothly.

5th malachite
Oh by the blasted balls of the king himself, I spoke too soon!
More ratmen have attacked growerkiller.
That's it, I'm putting us all in military service to combat this!
Ahah, good ol' growerkiller! He smashed one of em' up, but he's got summat
broken in his legs.

6th malachite
Ahahahah!
All the ratmen 'ave been thoroughly mangled by ol' growerkiller, an he's already recovered, I think.
Them ratty bastards will think twice in future, by the shining eyes of ibmat!

11th malachite
rats are still harassin' ol' growerkiller.
I can see where the "killer" comes in
hah, all of em are mangled by our doorway.#

28th malachite.
The ratmen are all broken heaps of starvin' fur now, apart from one.
We named him Kelthosbut, or Metaldrill.
He's still up and about near our chasm.
Funny thing is, the dwarves are scared away by the ratmen with mangled bodies.
Apparently dying beastmen are scary.

5th galena.
I had to personally go out and batter them ratmen.
Slung one off a cliff and pulverised t'other.

10th galena
Digging poor sarisian's tomb now.
Poor bastard was mobbed, and now he's avenged.

23rd galena
Fortress is now running quite smoothly.
I hope we get beds soon, because my back is givin' me gyp.
Still haven't worked out I'm, the infamous Maggarg Brokenhaft yet.

The events of 24th Galena, 1051.

With Heavy hearts, the dwarves of Drunkenrats gathered around the niche in the wall.
The leader of the fortress, supposed dwarf maiden Maggarg Iklistineth placed the weathered bones
in the stone coffin. Silently stepping back, "she" placed a smooth stone wall over the entrance.
"HERE LIES SARISIAN UVARESH, HUNTER.
MAY HE EVER HUNT HIS FOES."

The went back inside to their jobs. There was no time to mourn in an outpost.

2nd limestone
Autumnumnumnumnum has arrived.
I was thinking of making a depot, but we don't have an office or a broker or anything to trade with.
We're going to look for some iron ore now.

11th limestone.
We know that there's iron and coal now, and I'm digging the shafts for it.
There's 8 lumps of meat now, and poor Doc looks worried.

2oth limestone:
 just going to sleep now.

The Events of the 22nd of Limestone, 1051

As Maggarg opened his eyes, he saw someone else in his room.
He woke up a bit more.
There was a dwarf wearing a silly hat standing right over his bed, staring at him.
Maggarg's response was to punch him in the face, and run a mile from this dwarf.
As he ran, he heard something about trade agreements.
A liaison.
---------
22nd Limestone.
The damn liaison appeared over me like a damn phantom.
Armok's bustin' blood vessels, I'm gonna need a stiff drink.

28th limestone
Are these dwarves mentally deficient?
We have lots of barrels, lots of seeds, but there's hardly any food and no booze.
I shouted at them for a bit to cheer me up.
Oh, and Metaldrills finally met his end.
He pissed off Growerkiller for the last time, so growerkiller lopped his ratty arms off.

11th sandstone
Wonderful!
We hit limonite, and I'll be digging the coal out soon.
We'll all be kitted up with Iron soon. If there's chalk here
like the surveyors said, we'll be rolling in steel.

27th sandstone
Silverweave is happy now because we finally got something for her to do.
She's happily working the smelter now, making coke.

7th timber
Some migrants arrived.
I bet half of them are soapers and peasants, ready for operation meatshield, as we
 called it in my day.

There, second update.
I must admit, some of you are pretty vicious with an axe.

Silverweave hummed softly to herself as she burned lumps of coal into coke. This fort...this is what she needed. No overbearing forgemaster. No legendary craftsmaster telling her she can't touch the good metals. No. Here...here she'd be the forgemaster. Here she could experiment with all of the forms of metalcrafting in peace. Swords, helms, statues, rings. She can make whatever she wants! And there is coal, and iron. Maybe there are some precious metals here as well. She'd love to get a chance to work with Platinum. So much like her familiar silver...but so much better!

Thinking about the fortress, she pondered the ratmen. That batch was dead, but what if something worse climbed out of the depths? "As soon as we have iron", she told herself, "I'm going to start working on arms and armor. Maybe a crossbow and some good iron bolts...in case something that flies comes out of that pit".

Did I hear sillyness?  I love the humor that can be found in DF so obviously I am enjoying your story.  I'll take one of the recently arrived if you'd like

Drakolus or Drakona
Butcher/Wrestler (and maybe hunter)

A little TOO happy to break/kill/slaughter things

Hahahaha! It looks like the axe is useful after all >:D. A wonder that Growerkiller is still alive by judging how you are playing ;D.

If I may, I will take a dwarf whenever possible. Whatever profession, goes by the name of "Shalehammer" and likes sharp things.

Interesting story. If I may take one of the immigrants, I'll have a sworddwarf named Tarquinius. (Original profession doesn't matter, just draft him/her and set to using swords.)

Or in other words: shy from the sky. No answer lies there. It cannot care, especially for what it no longer knows. Treat that place as a thing unto itself, independent of all else, and confront it on those terms. You alone must find the way. No one else can help you. Every way is different. And if you do lose yourself at least take solace in the absolute certainty that you will perish.

Sorry about the inactivity, I've been in rather a pickle with work and things this week, and I might not have an update for a while, at worst until monday next week.
