What effects artifacts?
« on: June 26, 2008, 10:44:51 am »

After a string of ambushes, seiges and me being stupid (drowned a few accidentally), I could swear that my artifacts got grimmer titles. Early artifacts are called things like "The Ring of Loot", "Throwerband the Grove of Blossoming" and "Puzzledtulips the Fondled Beaches". Then I got these names in succession; "The Calamitous Risks", "Chopcries","Cruxchill the Bitter Contempt", "The Outrageous Strike" and "Gorebrands".
So does the situation really determine what word pool the RNG draws from in this case, or am I finding patterns where there are none?

I have always thought it was random.
It would be cool though, if there was an effect of events on the names.

The Ring of Loot is an epic name.

I bet it was a shale table instead of an actual ring, but still.

In fact, all of those grim ones are really cool!  I don't think it's affected by your game history... (images on the artifacts are another matter) so you might as well consider yourself lucky for having such badass dwarves.

The Ring of Loot was a perfect smoky quartz (if such a thing can be called perfect).
Yeah, I don't think there's a pattern. They've gone back to happy names despite a drowned baby. "Spinrushed" sounds excellent in the dwarven though (Eseshsashas!!!)

"Eseshsashas" is probably the sound the drowning baby made

Odd how "Experiment" in DF is often synonymous with "Raging inferno of death and dispair"

The baby drowned in a dwarven toilet.

That's the sound water makes when it's running. Think about it.
