Mining Z Levels
« on: June 24, 2008, 10:37:56 am »

This is sort of a noob question I'm sure, but I have mined down maybe 15 z levels, just to do some exploratory mining, and I can't seem to go further.  Is it likely that I've hit the "bottom"?

Yus;  Just like the sides of the map, there's a bottom limit.

I've never tested it, but I assume that there is a top limit as well.

15 Z-levels above your highest land point, and 15 Z-levels below your lowest

Odd how "Experiment" in DF is often synonymous with "Raging inferno of death and dispair"

Thanks guys!  Looking at the "meter" on the right side of the screen, I had assumed I could mine down like 100 levels....

That meter just shows how far above/below the surface the current Z-level is.

It may be worth noting that you can mine the bottom level; you just can't build down staircases (or up/down staircases) on it, so you'll have to end that giant staircase with an up stair.

Given the general shape of coins and what most people seem to find the minted variety useful for: "Rounds".
