Transporting Items
« on: July 08, 2008, 06:10:10 pm »

I once read somewhere in the forums that at the moment the only way to move stuff around the worldmap is a hero.

So is it possible to play Fortress FedEx. ?

For example, I have this abandoned fortress where there are some adamantium items lying around,
neatly stacked and sorted into some boxes conviniently near the entrance.
If a hero was to find them, and take them with him, to another place with a nice stockpile and some bins where he would hide them from thieves and such.
What would happen, if some enterprising dwarves would embark near that area and while digging to make a humble living would come across this leftovers of a surely demised hero ?

Sort of, sort of not.

The first thing to realize when Adventuring for items is that when you abandon a site, most loose items (based on weight or something) get scattered all over the area, so you'll have to hunt them down.

Dropping a bunch of stuff on the worldmap and finding it again to start a fortress might not work.  I have no idea if item's in unclaimed areas persist.  Two possibilities would be to retire the adventurer in a town, then build a fortress on it; or, use the Adventurer to dump the items in another abandoned fort, and Reclaiming it.

I will try and report :)

for the record I thought of preparing a small hole in the ground prepared with bins and a stockpile
so yeah something abandoned and reclaimed, after fedex has been through

I have hard times finding adventurers' deeds in fortress mode. May it be that the adventurers' progress is not saved toward fortress mode?

On a similar note, i don't know if stuff that happens in fortress mode gets saved in legends mode...

A lot of stuff is indeed saved over modes. It just has to be the "right stuff".

In a pocket world I created mainly for adventuring (but with 3 fortresses made that were abandoned after one year having opened HFS), talking to citizens of various cities with my adventurer would report interesting facts that I didn't think they would know (news travels fast).

SPOILERS:
Most of it are death/kill records - citizens would name dozens of dwarves a modded bronze colossus slew both in adventure and fortress mode. Citizens would also speak of HFS being released by careless miners and their kills/deaths.

Legends isn't very interesting right now (will be more after the first Army Arc release) and besides world gen (birth, marriage, induction to guard/temple, death) info only lists birth, kills, and death of your adventurer.

Also, the gear does stay on the city grounds, but is scattered as mentioned before. So returning to an area where you dropped stuff does work sometimes if you return immediately with an adventurer/fortress, but eventually it'll be scattered all over the map. IE, if you die with an adventurer somewhere you can return with the next adventurer and find the corpse/items where you died, but eventually the stuff will be scattered around after a few adventurers and the bodies rots. Same applies if you drop items.

EDIT - I've heard that rarely you will find items a kobold stole from your fortress or items you traded to traders lying around, but I have not witnessed any of that myself yet.
