"Æ" shows up as.. a bare winter tree?

I put in the "Æ" symbol for a creature but as I said, they show up as trees instead.. whatever that symbol is called.. ah, here it is..

I can see that Æ is in the curses font.. so what gives?

OK, after some experimentation I got it to work as "Tile:146" (With no quotes around the number.)

Oddly though that's not.. how I counted the tiles.. I had it at 138 or so (By counting the first one as 0.) Or is it verticle top to bottom, left to right..
