What is needed for dwarves to have babies?
« on: February 10, 2008, 03:44:00 pm »

I know they need to be married, but are beds or bedrooms needed?

I am trying to make my immigrants have children to test a mod I'm working on, but they never seem to want to have babies.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

[Healthcare Update Thread] Personally, I can't wait for doctors to get possessed and start surgically attaching axes to champion soldier's arms.

I don't think beds are absolutely needed, but without beds the mothers have a high chance of having a miscarriage.

Thanks for that info.

The babies are born 100 or 200 at a time (mod), so that's useful to know.

That's what I'm aiming for.

There are problems, however. I'm not sure if putting [CHILD:0] and [BABY:0] will make dwarves be born as adults.

Also, immigrants barely ever have kids, so it takes a long time to see if the mod worked.

I'm pretty sure 0 is the default value for CHILD and BABY, so [CHILD:0] renders a creature childless and [BABY:0] means their children will be born as children rather than babies (currently only civilized races have babies AFAIK).

So that means that creatures with [CHILD:0] won't have kids?
Well, is it possible to make children turn to adults in less than a year? Say, setting [CHILD:.25] so it takes 1 season to turn into adults?

I don't think you could do .25, 1 I think would be the least and still be able to have children.

Edit: Also how does world gen work with that high a birthrate? Is the world flooded with dwarves?

I don't know. I haven't gotten my damn immigrants to have kids yet, but the world map seems normal (usually I don't look around much, so I can't be sure).

I think there's a hard cap on population for each entity, currently.

I could edit that to be like 10000 though, and then dwarves would be coming out the wazoo.
